My in-laws live in a home that was built over a hundred fifty years ago. It’s in really good shape considering its age, however, they house that old does come with some challenges too. Some of them are easier to take them others, for example, none of the walls in the house are perfectly straight so you have to be very creative when it comes to painting and such to make them appear that way. That isn’t such a big deal because you can disguise a multitude of problems with some creative decorating. There are other issues however that cannot be ignored such as the fact that their basement is always wet. Basements at that time were you there hand-dug with dirt floors or they were made of stone and put together with some sort of cement and they are impossible to seal completely. Expensive having the basement redone is way too costly so they put minimal things down in the basement. One of the main things that is located there is their HVAC unit and they have to replace it about every five to ten years. This is mainly due to the fact that is constantly exposed to moisture coming from underneath and at times debasement can collect actual standing water as well. In my opinion it would be more cost-effective to make the investment and fix the basement rather than purchasing expensive HVAC equipment all the time. I am sure they will have to make this repair prior to selling the house so I think we should just go ahead and do it anyway.
