Hot Biking

Last year I decided to do something that I never thought I would actually do, but I had dreamed about it for years. I decided to enter a real bike race! The race was going to be about fifty miles long and it just so happened that the race was on a day when the temperatures outside were in the high 90s. I actually thought that I was going to die from overheating. We thought that we were going to have perfect weather, but it ended up being way hotter than we ever imagined. The whole time I was riding, all I could do was think about how I could be spending the day in the air conditioning instead of being on this uncomfortable bike in what felt like a giant outdoor furnace. I was pretty proud of myself for doing the bike race in the first place, but I actually was even more proud of myself for living through the high temperatures without an air conditioner! I know that sounds like I’m spoiled, but you have to understand that while I was in training, I practiced riding my bike on a stationary bike in an air conditioned gym! Once I started the race in the 96 degree temperatures, I realized that I had made a huge mistake! I had no clue that I’d be missing the cool air from the air conditioning vents in the room at my gym. It was so hot out there that I totally couldn’t concentrate on what I was doing. I could only think about getting home and adjusting my digital programmable thermostat to some freezing cold A/C.
