Utility rooms in the basement

There are still two bedrooms upstairs full of moving boxes for me to unpack. I’m slowly working my way through all of it and getting everything put away. Moving is so much work. I should have gotten rid of a lot of the stuff we’ve accumulated before we moved, but at least I now have an attic to store it all in. I want to keep these two bedrooms free of clutter so I can have some fun decorating them. One room will become a nursery and the other a guest bedroom. I have lots of ideas for window treatments and wall colors. But, before I get to that, I’m going to have the furnace checked out. Unlike the rooms downstairs, these two bedrooms seem to get hot and cold no matter what it feels like in the rest of the house. My husband thinks that having just the one thermostat in a two story house may be the reason for the temperature swings. It makes sense because it does take more time to heat two stories. I noticed the thermostat on the first floor will sometimes shut off before the entire house is fully heated. I hope that a good furnace repairman can fix the heating problem by simply adding a second thermostat to the upper floor. My husband said that should allow the HVAC system to remain on until all the rooms reach the same temperature. I hope it’s that simple. My first thought was that the furnace might need to be replaced. If it’s just another thermostat that we need, that will be a big relief. I want to have a nursery that will be perfectly heated and cooled, maybe with an air purifier, too.
