My sister Betty, who lives with me these days as my roommate is costing me a fortune and driving me insane. We both first moved in during the Spring, when the outside temperature was beautifully mild. I hoped that every one of us could trim costs by simply opening the windows. Unfortunately, when the windows were wide open, Betty would lower the thermostat and start up the A/C. I’d point out that the cool air was flying straight out the window, and she’d explain that she loved the combination of fresh air and air conditioner. Once the heat and humidity of summertime arrived, I was ecstatic and happy to operate the A/C. I was unwilling, but, to leave the A/C blasting while we were both at work. No matter how many multiple times I reminded Betty to bump up the thermostat before heading out the door, I’d come home to a frosty cold apartment. Now, the outside temperature is down in the teens and the situation is even worse. Betty would like to run the oil furnace at maximum capacity at all times. Whether we’re at home, at work or sound asleep sleeping, she has the thermostat cranked up to the point that I’m hot. I often catch her opening a window to let in some fresh air. I think I will no longer live with her once this lease is up!
