I am a student enrolled in school in the northeastern region of the country, and I rent a house just off campus. There is honestly very limited parking available on campus, which usually forces myself and others to walk nearly a mile to reach my more than 2 classrooms. Unfortunately, from September until the end of May, the weather in this area is outrageously cold, wet and snowy. I have a lot of heavy textbooks that I pack into my backpack, and carry through these horrid weather conditions. I make sure to dress in heavy boots, a thick coat, knitted hat and a scarf or two, even with all those clothes on i still shiver the whole mile walk. I am generally in a rush to get inside the heated buildings on campus. Unfortunately, majority of the classrooms aren’t kept at a comfortable temperature. In my biology classroom, there is a group of ladies who constantly open the windows. It doesn’t occur to them that they are wasting a ton of an amount of energy, addition to welcoming in freezing air, resulting in making everyone else highly annoyed. I can’t even imagine the cost of running the heater at maximum capacity while the windows are wide open. I usually wear my coat during the class, because it is so terribly cold. I don’t understand why the professor allows these ladies to make such an irresponsible notion, making everyone else uncomfortable, but I do occasionally get up and close the windows. Doing so often makes things into a huge argument with the group of ladies but I should be able to attend class in a comfortable setting, have a chance to defrost from my long walk, especially knowing I have to take it again. Besides, whos going to sit around and watch heat waves escape to warm and not do anything about it?
