Why my store decided the middle of Summer and back-to-school season was the right time for the remodel, I will never know. As if the constant customer traffic and high sales volumes weren’t making work hard enough, we have to contend with this terrible heat wave. My retail job has decided that the month of the August was the time for our store to get the modern update that’s been going around every store in the East coast sales regions. It would be 1 thing if the remodel was on the sales floor, where all of the customers are, sadly, this is not the area that is being torn up! Our store is having a remodel for the entire back room, and we’ve had to tear up every aisle while they put in everything, including new walls, light fixtures, and security cameras. It seems the 1 thing that isn’t on the renovation list is the 1 myself and others regularly ask for–Heating and Air Conditioning. While the sales floor of our store is regularly kept perfectly comfortable for the purchasers, thanks to the store’s heating and cooling system, that is where the Heating and Air Conditioning starts and ends. There is no heating and cooling for the backroom warehouse, the offices, or the break room. So now my whole team is working in the backroom, sweaty and getting very disgusting… But because of the high customer traffic, we still get called onto the floor to help purchasers. The lack of heating and cooling makes us look awful and unprofessional. I can’t wait for this remodel to be over with, so at least we won’t be doing this much heavy labor without a Heating and Air Conditioning system.
