I keep a lot of geckos, chameleons, and lizards. They need a lot of humidity in their tanks however, I sure wish that my home was not so very humid. I use little humidity removal canisters but they are full within a week. I’ve tried leaving socks packed with rice around as well but these don’t seem to help. I called the HVAC company and they mentioned perhaps adding a desiccant wheel to my air conditioning unit. They said a desiccant wheel is what hospitals utilize in order to keep the operating room and recovery room at lower humidities so patients can recover and not get an infection. It is, in fact, a wheel that goes within an existing air conditioning system. The wheel is full of silica gel and it slowly rotates inside the air handler of my HVAC system. However, it is somewhat like a humidity canister but works for the whole home instead of needing several for every room. I am absolutely interested in getting something like this for my place. I want my pets to live comfortable however, I want to be comfortable too. The main issue is my air conditioning compressor is situated outside of my lake home so I don’t understand if this desiccant wheel will simply remove the humidity from the outside air or if it will remove the humidity from the inside air as well. I don’t know that for sure because I still am not sure about it entirely. I suppose the best thing to do would ask to have an HVAC company come and look at my system to see what will fit for me.
