A roommate dilema

My roommate and I have finally resolved a continuing problem of ours.  Only a few weeks after Kathy and I moved in together, we began to realize that  we had completely different preferences when it came to how we operated the air conditioner. She wanted to keep the A/C cycling all of the time because she gets overheated easily.  I was typically more inclined to keep it off unless it was really hot. I believe I was less willing to start up the air conditioner because my parents taught me to save energy. They insisted we only use the A/C on especially hot afternoons. Each time the utility bill would arrive in the mail I would get aggravated because it seemed like it was unreasonably costly. I knew that this was because of my roommate over using the air conditioner. Kathy and I weren’t able to come to a resolution until we spoke to our landlord. When we explained the reasons why we were considering moving out, she told us that she would install a zone controlled HVAC unit. I had not heard of this types of heating and cooling systems until she explained it.   Zone control allows the homeowner to heat or cool individual rooms without having to maintain the entire house at the same temperature. This sounded ideal because it would allow my roommate to run the air conditioner strictly in her room. We could leave it off in the rest of the house. After the zone control unit was installed, we instantly stopped having arguments. We found that we were able to get along together without any arguments. Zone controlled HVAC units are awesome.
