Like all fantastic collections, mine is based on passion – not on cash. However, by that I mean, in the world of collecting, certain people are in it for monetary gain. These people focus on buying up the items they think will rise in value the most over the years. Others in our world, those like me, started collecting because of their love of comic books, and because every one of us wanted to learn about them. That’s how it started for me, even though now I am like any other serious collector, but it’s really is based in the love of comics. Of course back then I just bought them to read them, but now I keep my comics sealed in a temperature controlled safe room in my house. The air quality is important when it comes to maintaining these books over long periods of time. Only in the last 10 or twenty years have comics been made with collectors in mind, so the cheap paper in outdated books responds quickly to awful air quality plus high humidity! Having a top quality ventilation system is the first thing that I would suggest for anyone with a comic collection. However if you are going to go that far, why not go all the way plus get a dedicated Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C system just for the collection? I have my dedicated Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C system on its own power grid, connected to a backup generator! That’s in case the main power goes out – my comics are still safe. And you may think it’s crazy or deranged to buy a temperature control system for your comics, although I say it is much sillier not to!
