I grew up in the north with a very “old school” family. In the house where I grew up, we didn’t have any of the modern luxuries that most people have in their homes. To me, it wasn’t anything crazy. We chopped wood out in the backyard for the fireplace, and during the evening we lit candles so we could see. There was also no chilly air conditioning to come home to after a long day in the summer either. The best option that you had was to jump in a ice cold bath to cool down! Now that I am older and living on my own for the very first time, I am starting to see just how rare of a childhood I had. I am working in the city now doing construction, and I can’t believe some of the things I see here. Just in the one room apartment that I live in, I am amazed with it and i have been living here for five months! I was working on putting in a fireplace into a house that we were building, but it wasn’t actually a fireplace at all. It was a custom made state of the art heated gas furnace that was built to look like a fireplace, without any of the problems that come with a fireplace. With this amazing unit, you don’t have to go out into the cold to cut wood or sweep up ashes off the floor. All of these new advances in HVAC technology are very impressive and popular, but I still am so glad that I grew up in a house that taught me how to work hard and not rely only on modern HVAC appliances.
