This week, I tried an experiment with our air conditioner. See, it’s been a absolutely long, sizzling Summer where both of us live & our air conditioner bills have been absolutely high for the past several months. That’s why, today, when it’s been cooler than it’s been in weeks & weeks, I decided to turn off our air conditioner & open up the windows & doors to try & get some cool, fresh air into the house. Not only did I want some fresh air in the house, I wanted to supply our A/C unit a rest from regularly working (and supply our wallets a rest from regularly paying for the A/C!) Well, it worked pretty well for most of the day. The breeze was nice & cool all day & both of us didn’t absolutely do anything hard outside in the sunshine. It wasn’t bad at all until the evening sun came streaming in through the back doors & windows & heating up the house. At that point, the heat in the apartment became almost unbearable & I decided to turn the control unit back to air conditioner. Well, the apartment had gotten so sizzling by then that my partner & I couldn’t get to sleep. We’re used to sleeping with the control unit set at around 67 or 74 degrees, & the temperature was about several degrees hotter than that! Once the A/C kicked on again, it had to work several times harder to try & cool the entire apartment back down to a cooler temperature. I don’t believe my system worked out absolutely well at all. Our air conditioner bill will absolutely be more now than it would’ve been if I’d just let the programmable control unit do its task.
