When I was a kid, our siblings and I always fought over who could have the largest bedroom, then all of us moved into a new lake home. Since I am the oldest child, I pulled seniority and took the largest bedroom… I was so excited about it. The bedroom was located in the attic and had plenty of space for our TV and video games, desk, and bean bin chairs. I was so excited to have friends from school over and show them my cool new room; What I didn’t realize at that age was that heat rises and all of us did not have any air conditioner. The first weekend in the house, I begged to have some friends sleepover in the new room… Despite the stress of moving, our Dad approved of the sleepover. With 4 of us in the room, the room only got hotter as the night went on. I ran downstairs and asked our parents to turn on the air conditioner, however they informed me that all of us did not have any air conditioner set up yet. I was perspiring and I could tell that our guests were uncomfortable. I was so embarrassed to invite them over when the home was so tepid and humid. All of us ended up moving downstairs to the basement because it was cooler. All of us still had a lot of fun at our sleepover, but I found myself wishing I had opted for a downstairs bedroom, and once all of us were settled in, our parents had a new cooling device installed. As soon as the air conditioner was functional, I invited our friends back and redeemed myself. They loved my attic bedroom, especially now that it wasn’t ninety degrees. I will never take the a/c for granted again.
