I recently decided that I don’t like traveling as much as I used to. My job requires me to be on the road a lot, with at least four scheduled trips per month to visit our work sites. I used to really enjoy traveling because it provided me opportunities to see and experience new things, but now I just find it aggravating. What bothers me the most about being on the road is never knowing what to expect at the hotel. I’ve dealt with all kinds of issues, but the one that totally annoys me the most is when I have air conditioning issues. When I get in after a day of traveling, the last thing I want to have is an air conditioner or a heater that does not work properly. Without a doubt, HVAC problems are what I have to deal with most frequently. Hotel employees have to maintain a lot of rooms, and that means that there is always something to be done with the HVAC units. Each room has its own air conditioning unit, so that can lead to a lot of issues, but still, I think that someone should really check the HVAC systems before allowing people to check it. I can’t recall how many days I’ve had to spend in hot rooms because the hotel was booked with no other room available to put me in. If not for this problem I probably wouldn’t be so worn out when it comes to being on the move. I decided that I’m going to apply for a transfer to a new position this year. Traveling is no longer enjoyable for me.
