My city has an unusually high number of homeless men and women. A lot of people lost their homes in a major tropical storm, and some of them have never recovered. There are homeless camps all over the city. There are rows of tents under the overpass, and most of the parks house homeless folks overnight. We have a few shelters in the city, but they fill up very quickly. During this past holiday, my son and I decided to do something special. My son and I went to the Super Store and purchased a dozen portable heaters. We purchased enough batteries for all of the heaters. My son and I waited until the weather was cold, and we delivered all of the portable heaters. We tried to distribute the portable heaters fairly, so everyone had a chance to feel some warmth during these holidays. My son was really surprised by the amount of children living in these tent cities. After we’ve distributed all of the portable heaters and batteries, my son wanted to go to the dollar store and buy blankets. I didn’t opposed the idea, and I was proud of my son for thinking about others. We delivered twenty warm blankets as well. The homeless problem is too big for one person to fix, but it only takes one person to make a difference. I hope the portable heaters and batteries will provide some warmth during this cold, holiday season. I also hope our incoming governor will finally do something to help all of these homeless residents. It is a tragedy to see our town in such ruins.
