I have the craziest story! A friend of mine recently bought a house right around the corner from me. I was so excited because she is one of my best friends. I offered to help her clean the house before she moved in so that there wasn’t any dirt or grime left from the owners before her. We spent the first day on the kitchen, the second day on the living and dining rooms, and another full day on all the bedrooms. It was rough work, but in the end paid off. The last thing she wanted to do before she moved in was have the HVAC ducting cleaned of dirt and dust. The appointment was scheduled for the next day, so I didn’t expect to see her. In fact, she showed up at my door with a look of horror on her face that was so comical, I actually burst out laughing. She retold the events quickly. The heating and cooling company came to her house to clean the HVAC vents. She was unpacking some dishes in the kitchen when she heard the weirdest humming sound. She poked her head downstairs to ask the heating, ventilation, and A/C workers if they were humming since she was hearing the sound and couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. The workers stopped dead to investigate, and for good reason, as it turns out. Her house had sat vacant for a few months, and during that time an entire section of HVAC ducting had been infested with insects. She was so horrified that she immediately ran over to my house. The infestation was taken care of, the HVAC ducts were made squeaky clean, but my friend still insisted I sleep over the first night. She was THAT worked up over the whole thing.
