Working in a Traveling Position

In the right conditions, I think that I would really love to work for a company that required me to travel. I’m a single person with no kids, so there’s really nothing major that is binding me to one place right now, and the chance to see new things on a regular basis would be really nice. The only thing I would worry about would be making sure the hotels were always decent. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve ended up in bad hotels, and they have completely ruined an experience. The most memorable time probably came when I arrived in a room to find that it didn’t have an A/C at all. I only learned this after searching all over the room to find that there was no thermostat. I called the front desk to see if there was another room that had a cooling system, but there wasn’t. I was stuck for the night with no way to cool off. For someone who is used to running the A/C at full speed during the nights this was a real challenge. The next day, I checked out of that hotel early and found a new one a few blocks away. Now, this is something that I always ask about in advance when I’m traveling. I have to because otherwise I’d be miserable. My guess is that I would be staying in pretty nice places if I were having to travel on a company trip, so this would be ideal. I think I’m going to start looking for jobs like this so that I can shake up my routine a little bit.
